Ashiatsu Massage

Ashiatsu Massage is a deep-pressure technique performed with the therapist’s feet. The broad surface of the foot allows pressure to be distributed across larger muscle areas, creating a very different experience from traditional hands-on massage.
How Ashiatsu Massage Works
Warm-up and assessment before deeper work.
Ashiatsu is normally performed at the beginning of a deep massage session. As the therapist works over the body with the feet, it warms up the muscles while also helping the therapist assess muscle tension and determine which areas may need more focused work later in the session. This type of warm-up is generally not used for a light-pressure massage.
Is Ashiatsu right for everyone?
No. Because the therapist’s body weight is involved, Ashiatsu is not appropriate for every client. Body size and physical condition must be considered before this technique is used. The therapist will determine whether Ashiatsu is appropriate for the individual client.
Benefit  of Ashiatsu
Ashiatsu allows the therapist to transfer body weight through the feet directly into selected muscle areas. The broad surface of the foot and repeated movements can work over larger areas of muscle efficiently, helping severe muscle tension gradually relieve and prepare for the deep bodywork later.Â
The therapist does not walk over the entire body. Ashiatsu is used only on areas where this type of pressure can be applied safely.Â
Ashiatsu is used to prepare for deep bodywork. It may be added at the beginning of a deep massage session when the therapist determines it can be used safely and effectively.
Ashiatsu is not offered as a stand-alone session.
